About
Manufacturing shaped how I think.
Technology changed what I could build.
I'm Viraj Mahalunkar, a manufacturing entrepreneur based in Pune. I come from inside a manufacturing business — not from a design agency or a software company looking in — and that's the perspective this work is built on.
The journey
- 01
Manufacturing business
Running operations inside a die-casting manufacturer in Chakan, Pune — the starting point, not a case study read from outside.
- 02
Customer relationships & digital marketing
Learning how industrial buyers actually find and qualify a supplier, long before any of it was digital.
- 03
SEO & website development
Turning that understanding into real websites and search visibility for manufacturing businesses, starting with SAPL.
- 04
Business dashboards & automation
Replacing spreadsheets and manual reporting with structured internal systems.
- 05
Custom applications
Building purpose-built software instead of adapting generic tools to a manufacturing workflow.
- 06
InFaktory
An AI-assisted RFQ platform, built directly for a die-casting shop's own drawings and quotations.
Where this started
Working inside manufacturing businesses in and around Chakan and Pune meant seeing the same repetitive problems from the inside, not as a theoretical case study. Instead of treating a slow RFQ process, a hard-to-find website, or a spreadsheet holding together a whole costing workflow as separate problems, I started building digital systems around them directly.
That meant building real, live websites for real manufacturing businesses — a die-casting manufacturer, a cutting tools distributor, and an industrial real-estate company — and building InFaktory, an AI-assisted RFQ platform, directly for a die-casting shop's actual workflow.
Problems seen from the inside
- RFQs and how long they actually take to turn around
- Quotations and the spreadsheets they usually live in
- Sales conversations that depend on information nobody wrote down
- Costing that gets rebuilt by hand for every enquiry
- Engineering documentation passed around as PDFs and photos
- Reporting assembled manually at the end of every week
- Customer communication spread across email, WhatsApp and phone calls
- Digital marketing treated as an afterthought, not infrastructure
Where the focus is today
The work today sits at the intersection of five things — and the reason it's five, not one, is that a manufacturing business's digital problems rarely show up in just one of these on their own.
- Manufacturing
- Software
- AI
- SEO
- Product Design
I'm not a traditionally-trained software engineer, and I don't present myself as one. I build with AI-assisted development tools, under direct review at every step — the same way I'd expect any team working on something I depend on to operate. The result is what's in this portfolio: real, working products, not a claim about how they were made.
